7th Ave. CRA - The
Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) has been
meeting with its new board for the past 8 months and
most of the meetings and workshop discussions have
been taken up with the revision to the old Car Mar
plan, to formulate a more practical business plan
for the 7th Ave. CRA. The development of "The
Plan" has been slow, but productive, Not only
is this process slow but, it takes a while to get
this plan into effect and obtain approval from the
Miami/Dade County board of Commissioners.
After the county approval of the
plan and budget, the CRA would then hire a person
that would administrate "The Plan" and be
a "go between" County and our CRA. This
person would be similar to an individual who runs a
large mall and be some one who can run promotions,
as well as run special business assistance plans
that the CRA Board is enacting within this year's
budget. This person must also have experience in
real estate and be able to attract new business into
our area. Also this individual should be able to
send out a monthly newsletter to all of our owners
of businesses and property owners as well, whether
they are local or absentee and be available daily to
help local businesses. Another area where this
person should have experience in is grant writing to
attract more monies for the CRA as well as create
business opportunities and events.
Another thing that can be done
prior to getting into full management mode; would be
to get some of the small business programs going
that are already in the CRA budget. These are called
"quick victory" projects that breath a
little new life into the business community.
These programs consist of monies
to hook up sewer systems and get people off septic
tanks, also money for facade renovation and money
for painting and landscape help.
Although at this time the process
is slow, it will pick up if the proper liaison
person who is picked, has the necessary
entrepreneurial energy. And if the Miami-Dade County
Commissioners approve "The Plan" and the
CRA budget, then and only then will things begin to
happen for our district.

Thank you for all the
people who promptly replied to this year's appeal
for dues and advertising. It is very important that
you respond as it takes money to produce our annual
7th Ave Directory and our newsletter, not to mention
some other taxes and fees we must pay. Please
do your best to help!
