7th Ave. CRA - The first
meeting for the 7th Ave. CRA was held May 11 and
there was more discussion on organizational issues
than of any really significant problems that face
us. However this is good and it will take a while to
organize. The new men that serve on the Board will
have to feel their way along until they get
comfortable with the issues. One of the things
brought up was the discussion of whether to modify
the now dead "Potamkin Plan" or scrap
everything and star anew.
The meeting was supervised by M/D County Strategist
Bus. Planning and they will guide us until we can
come up with an effective plan for our area.
Meanwhile we can institute programs right away that
will make an impact on the area while we reach for a
larger solution. such as facade programs with
matching funds that are relatively hassle free and
store front repair programs as well as getting M/D
County to police their traffic and light poles. This
will all take time but we hope people will have
patience.

Some of the news on
the "STREET" is that there are several new
buildings that are near completion and will surely
be an asset to our Greater 7th Ave.
Cap't Harry's who will move onto out street by the
end of the year will have a 3 story, 17,000 square
foot of sales and offices. Cap't Harry's is moving
from downtown where they were for years. Carl
Liederman who owns the company said it was a no
brainier to move along the busiest highway in
Florida. Carl is a welcome member of G7AIA.
Meanwhile Murray's Speed and Custom at 158th Street
and a long time member is finishing up on their 2
story building. Murray has 9 stores throughout Dade
and Broward Counties with their main office
here.
Lion Plumbing Supply is also finishing up on a new
12,000 square foot warehouse on 143rd Street. this
is coming behind their new 5,000 square foot
showroom recently completed.
Also at 109th Street Public Storage has broken
ground on their new 2 story facility and will be up
and running within a year.
All of this is happening in our area even though we
are in an economic down turn. Hopefully with our CRA
and individual entrepreneurial skill we will begin
an new era. We have worked a long time for this and
we have coming to us!
